COAT OF ARMS Authorized: Originally approved for the 1st Division Train, 29 September 1921; reassigned to the 1st Quartermaster Regiment, 7 August 1936; redesignated for the 1st Quartermaster Battalion, 9 September 1940; rescinded, 3 June 1958, Reinstated and redesignated for the 1st Supply and Transportation Battalion, 6 February 1964; redesignated for the 101st Support Battalion, 5 June 1987. SHIELD: Or, an oak tree proper charged with a fleur-de-lis argent. Symbolism: This organization did very excellent work at Soissons and in the Argonne south of Sedan. The arms of Soissons are a red field with silver fleur-de-lis and those of Sedan a bear leaning against an oak tree. The shield is gold or yellow, this being the nearest heraldic equivalent to the buff of the Quartermaster Corps. On the shield is a green tree for the Argonne forest and against the foliage is a silver fleur-de-lis for Soissons. CREST: On a wreath of the colors a boar passant with dexter fore foot resting upon a wheel all sable. Symbolism: The crest is the bear of Sedan with his right fore foot resting on the wheel of the Supply Corps. MOTTO: PORTONS LES FARDEAUX (Let Us Carry the Burdens) was selected as the units motto as under stress of battle the train carried everything from food and ammunition into action to wounded men out.
