Constituted 4 December 1942 in the Army of the United States as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 528th Quartermaster Service Battalion.

Activated 15 December 1942 at Camp  McCain, Mississippi.

Reorganized and redesignated 18 January 1944 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 528th Quartermaster Battalion.

Converted and redesignated 1 August 1946 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 528th Transportation Corps Truck Battalion.

Inactivated 20 November 1947 in France.

Activated 22 October 1948 at Clarksburg, West Virginia.

Inactivated 8 November 1950 at Clarksburg.

Withdrawn from the Organized Reserve Corps, redesignated Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 528th Quartermaster Battalion and allotted to the Regular Army, 15 January 1952.

Activated 1 February 1952 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.

Inactivated 5 November 1966 at Fort Lee, Virginia.

Activated 25 September 1969 at Phu Bai, Vietnam.

Reorganized and redesignated 5 September 1969 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 528th Quartermaster Battalion.

Inactivated 15 April 1971 at Da Nang, Vietnam.

Consolidated with the 13th Support Battalion (organized 3 June 1986 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina) and redesignated 16 May 1987 as the 528th Support Battalion.

DISTINCTIVE UNIT INSIGNIA
(Unit Crest)

The insignia is the shield and motto of the coat of arms. The insignia was authorized for wear on 14 January 1988.

COAT OF ARMS

SHIELD: Or, a dance of two vert between a fleur-de-lis and two arrowheads gules, in base a fountain.

CREST: On a wreath of the colors (or and vert) a demi-oriental winged dragon gules, armed and langued vert, grasping two arrows saltirewise of the first.

MOTTO: We Support to the Upmost

The heraldic dance is reminiscent of mountains while the fountain represents water. The fleur-de-lis is for France.  These elements represent the service of the unit in Europe during World War II.  The unit's two assault landings are indicated by the red arrowheads while the green refers to the organization's mission of support to Special Operations.  The unit's service in Vietnam is symbolized by the dragon.  Its wings and the crossed arrows refer to the battalion's mission and capabilities.

Airborne Flash and Background Trimming

Authorized: 10 October 1986 for the 13th Support Battalion (Special Operations) (Airborne), redesignated 16 May 1987 for the 528th Support Battalion   (Special Operations) (Airborne).

Flash:  A shield-shaped insignia with a semicircular base, edged with a 1/8 inch green border, the overall dimensions 1 7/8 inches in width and 2 1/4 inches in height, divided from upper left to lower right buff above red.

Background Trimming:  An oval shaped device edged with a 1/8 inch green border, the overall dimensions 1 3/8 inched in height and 2 1/4 inched in width, divided from upper left to lower right buff above red.
