Constituted 13 March 1942 in the Army of the United States as Company D, 62d Quartermaster Battalion.

Activated 25 May 1942 at Camp Gordon, Georgia.

Reorganized and redesignated October 1943 as the 549th Quartermaster Laundry Company.

Inactivated 8 March 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey.

Activated 9 April 1946 at Camp Lee, Virginia.

Allotted 21 February 1949 to the Regular Army.

Reorganized and redesignated 1 April 1954 as the 549th Quartermaster Company.

Inactivated 21 December 1974 on Okinawa.

Activated 1 October 1980 at Fort Story, Virginia.
