623rd QUARTERMASTER COMPANY Activated 20 April 1944 at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana as the 623rd Quartermaster Railhead Company. The unit moved to Camp Bowie, Texas on 24 May 1944. The 623rd departed Camp Bowie, Texas on 6 Jan 1945 and arrived in Leyte, Philippine Islands on 13 February 1945. Redesignated on 18 January 1949 as the 623rd Quartermaster Base Depot Company and assigned to the Fifth Army .Redesignated on 12 December 1951 as the 623rd Quartermaster Company (Air Equipment Repair) located at Ft. Benning, Georgia assigned to the Third Army. The 623rd Quartermaster Company (Air Equipment Repair) was transferred from Ft. Benning, Georgia to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina on 5 September 1952. On 23 August 1966 the 623rd arrived in Vietnam. The company shared airdrop facilities with the 109th Quartermaster Company (Aerial Supply) at Cam Ranh Bay and played a significant role in the airdrop of supplies during Operation Junction City involving the 173rd Airborne Brigade, the siege of Khe Sanh, and the A Shau Valley Campaign.Inactivated on 20 December 1968 in Vietnam. Activated again in 1994 as the 623rd Quartermaster Company (Aerial Equipment Repair and Supply) in the 1st COSCOM, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina with the 530th Supply and Services Battalion and later reassigned to the 264th Corps Support Battalion (Airborne) in 1995.
